Typical storm jobs
| Situation | What crews usually do |
|---|---|
| Trees down across a yard or drive | Cut into sections and remove or mulch |
| Fallen timber on acreage | Clear with machines, mulch or pile |
| Uprooted root balls | Cut free, remove and fill the hole |
| Brush and limb piles | Grind on site or haul away |
| Leaning or hung-up trees | Often a tree service job; mention it so the right crew comes |
Safety first
Stay away from downed power lines and anything touching them, and report them to your utility. Trees on or against a house, or hanging over one, usually call for a tree service with climbing or lifting gear, so say so in your request. For insurance questions, talk to your insurance company before work starts and take photos of everything.
After a big storm
- Expect high demand; companies may schedule by urgency.
- Photos help companies quote faster. Send them when they call.
- Ask how the company handles debris, and check with your parish about curbside pickup.
- Get the scope and price in writing before work begins.
Questions worth asking
- Can you handle the biggest tree, or do I need a tree service too?
- Will you remove the root balls and fill the holes?
- Where will the debris go?
- Can you give me a written estimate for my insurance company?
Hurricane season here
Hurricane season runs through the summer and fall, and the Baton Rouge area also gets strong spring and summer thunderstorms. Clearing dead and leaning trees and thick brush before storm season is one reason owners book clearing in late winter and spring.
Questions people ask
How fast can someone come out after a storm?
It depends on how widespread the damage is. Send a request as soon as it's safe, with your town and what's down.
Do you work with insurance?
We're a referral service, so we don't. Many companies can provide written estimates; ask your insurer what they need.
Is a tree on my house a clearing job?
Usually not. That's a tree service job. Say so in the notes so we can route it accurately.
